Immigration
What is the difference between an immigration consultant and a lawyer?
A consultant (an RCIC) can prepare and file many immigration applications. Some matters, such as judicial review at the Federal Court, arguing a refugee claim, and most appeals, can only be handled by a lawyer. Dr. Kataria is a licensed lawyer and can take these on.
My application was refused. Is it over?
Not necessarily. Depending on the decision you may be able to reapply, appeal, or ask the Federal Court to review it. The reason for the refusal decides which options you have, and some deadlines are very short, so get advice quickly.
What is judicial review?
It is asking the Federal Court to review whether a decision was made fairly and reasonably. It does not re-decide your application; if you succeed, the matter usually goes back for a fresh decision by a different officer.
How fast do I have to act after a refusal?
For Federal Court, generally 15 days if the decision was made in Canada and 60 days if it was made abroad. Other appeals have their own deadlines. Contact us as soon as you receive the decision.
Do you help with study permits, work permits, and permanent residence?
Yes. We handle the full range of immigration matters, from study and work permits to permanent residence, sponsorship, citizenship, refugee claims, and appeals.

Do you help clients outside Mississauga?
Yes. We serve clients across the Greater Toronto Area, and for immigration and Federal Court matters we act for clients across Canada.
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Closed Sunday.

Can a criminal charge affect my immigration status?
Yes, certain charges or convictions can affect a permanent resident or foreign national. Because Dr. Kataria handles both criminal and immigration matters, she can address the two together.
Do you prepare wills and powers of attorney?
Yes. We prepare wills, powers of attorney for property and personal care, and broader estate plans, and we guide executors through administering an estate.
Can you handle my home purchase, sale, or refinance?
Yes. We handle residential purchases, sales, refinancing, and title transfers, and manage the closing from start to finish.
